Category Manager – CPG (FDA-Regulated Products) (5 years experience required)

Position Summary:

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing category strategies for FDA-regulated consumer packaged goods (CPG) in grocery and convenience store channels. This role will drive category growth by leveraging market insights, consumer trends, and regulatory compliance to optimize product assortment, pricing, promotion, and placement.

Key Responsibilities:

Category Strategy & Execution:

  • Develop and implement category strategies for FDA-regulated CPG products in grocery and convenience store channels.
  • Align category plans with consumer trends, regulatory requirements, and retailer needs.
  • Optimize product assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies to maximize sales and profitability.

Market Analysis & Consumer Insights:

  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, competitive positioning, and consumer demand shifts.
  • Utilize sales data, industry reports, and shopper insights to drive decision-making.
  • Track FDA regulatory changes and ensure compliance across all product categories.

Retail & Channel Strategy:

  • Develop go-to-market strategies tailored to grocery and convenience store environments.
  • Collaborate with key retailers to enhance shelf presence, merchandising, and promotional execution.
  • Identify opportunities for category expansion, innovation, and private-label partnerships.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with sales, marketing, and regulatory teams to ensure category plans align with business objectives.
  • Partner with product development teams to introduce new SKUs that meet regulatory and consumer requirements.
  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships to optimize sourcing and pricing strategies.

Performance Tracking & Reporting:

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sales growth, market share, and promotional ROI.
  • Utilize category management tools and analytics to track performance and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and retail partners.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 5+ years of category management experience in CPG, preferably with FDA-regulated products (e.g., food, beverages, supplements, OTC).
  • Strong knowledge of grocery and convenience retail dynamics, including shopper behavior and merchandising strategies.
  • Proficiency in category management tools (Nielsen, IRI, POS data analysis).
  • Understanding of FDA regulations and compliance requirements for relevant product categories.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic plans while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to speak with conviction while allowing room for discussion and collaboration.
  • Influence decisions through data-driven insights while maintaining a cooperative and solutions-oriented tone.
